Programs That Help Families Find Stability and Build a Future

Family Promise of Southern New Hampshire provides more than temporary assistance—we offer practical solutions that help families overcome housing crises, regain stability, and move toward long-term independence. Through transitional housing, prevention, diversion, and our master leasing program, we meet families where they are and provide the resources, guidance, and support they need to create a brighter future.

Transitional Housing Program

Transitional Housing, Support,
and a Path Toward Independence

Family Promise of Southern New Hampshire’s program provides short-term transitional housing to families experiencing homelessness, allowing them to stay together as a family unit while they work toward regaining independence. Through our homes in Nashua and Derry, we provide shelter, meals, case management, and comprehensive support services.

Responsibility

Families enter the program by signing a contract committing to its requirements, which include a mandatory savings program, required classes, and case management. Residents are assigned household chores and are expected to contribute positively to the community.

Accountability

From the moment families arrive, they begin setting long-term goals focused on achieving independence. Parents work toward short-term objectives in three key areas: career, family, and finances, as steppingstones toward securing a permanent home of their own.

Advocacy

Families may arrive facing legal issues, custody matters, children’s educational needs, or other challenges that can stand in the way of stability. We connect families with a wide range of community resources to help them resolve these barriers and move forward on their path to independence.

Resiliency

Our goal is to put an end to  families experiencing homelessness, not just address it temporarily. Our mandatory financial literacy and savings programs are rigorous by design, ensuring that families leave with the tools and resources to weather future challenges. Many of our families go on to qualify for mortgages, making homeownership a reality.

Prevention & Diversion Services

Keeping Families Housed Whenever Possible

The best way to address homelessness is to stop it before it starts. Our Prevention Program works with households facing imminent displacement, providing the targeted support needed to keep families in their homes before a crisis occurs.

Participants receive individualized assessments and structured stabilization plans that address both immediate needs and long-term housing sustainability. Assistance may include help with rental and utility arrears, moving expenses, transportation, groceries, and work-related costs, all paired with case management and housing stabilization planning.

Prevention is a cost-effective, evidence-based approach that preserves family stability, dignity, and connection to the community, while reducing the strain on the shelter system. We continue to grow this program because we know that the right support, at the right time, can stop the cycle of homelessness before it begins.

Diversion Services

When families and individuals lose their housing and reach out to Family Promise of Southern New Hampshire, our first goal is to help them avoid the shelter system altogether, because keeping people housed is both the right and the smart thing to do for our community.

Through our Diversion Program, we work with people to find the solution that fits their situation, which may include:

Security deposit
assistance

Landlord mediation and
housing location support

Creative, strengths-based
solutions tailored to each
family's unique circumstances

Supportive Housing

Affordable Housing with Ongoing Support

For families and individuals that experience barriers to renting apartments, such as income requirements or poor rental history; our Master Leasing Program offers a stable path forward. We lease apartments and sublet them to tenants, earning at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Participants have access to a full range of voluntary support services, including case management, financial and family education, resume-building and employment assistance, community resource navigation, and legal advocacy.

Looking ahead, we are actively working to expand our partnerships with landlords and developers to increase the number of affordable units available to families and individuals in our region.
